Some people have decided to take up cycling as a way to exercise. Some people cycle as a competitive sport. And there are others that simply want a way to bond with their family, so they take up cycling. Regardless of your reason for needing to find a bicycle, you need to take some things into consideration when the time comes to choose the perfect bicycle for you. This article provides some advice to help you along your way.

One of the major parts of choosing the right cycling bicycle for you is making sure that the bicycle is the right size. Begin by measuring your inseam. Simply measure through your inner leg from your groin to the bottom of your foot to find out your inseam. The goal is to be able to sit on the seat of the bike and still rest your feet flat on the ground. If you can do this you need not worry about stopping in an emergency if your brakes malfunction. What kind of handlebars you want on your bike is also a big choice. There are plenty types of handlebars to choose from. Those handlebars which extend horizontally out offer great control for maneuvering. They are good for distributing your weight as you ride over a bigger area. For racing bikes you will want completely different handlebars, these handlebars will curve and allow you to ride your bike in a leaning position, this is to cut down on wind resistance and allow you to cycle faster. For those of us who only plan to use our bikes sporadically, you may wish to go with a handlebar style that is comfortable and yet easily stored away.

You also want to make sure you leave some room between you and the crossbar of your bike. When selecting a bike make sure you move the seat up slightly, to around a few inches above the height of the crossbar. Make certain you can still place both feet flatly on the ground. Different bikes will need differing clearance amounts. A touring bike for example will require around 1", perhaps slightly more. However for a mountain bike web you will need 3" between the crossbar and yourself. As you can see, there are many things to take into consideration when deciding on the perfect bicycle for you. There are people who view the durability of a bike to be most important, this is especially true if you plan to use your bike a lot over rough terrain. Others need a bicycle that will help get them from point to point with very little chance of breaking down. Some people have to think very seriously about the price they are paying for a bike. It is important to do your research and to shop around before you buy a bicycle. Don’t just buy the first bicycle that looks good—you could get stuck with a lemon!
